Alexis Nys
A large, life-sized, oil-on-canvas portrait of two lovely women perusing a newspaper called the "Journal Amusante." Still attached to the back is the tag from the venerable Manheim gallery in New Orleans, with a price of $25,000. The painting has a soft, peaceful quality that will set a serene mood in any room in which it is displayed. By Belgian painter Alexis Nys, and probably painted there. The painting has extensive craquelure (thin, spidery cracks) in parts, which is not uncommon for a painting of this age - but as it will most likely be viewed from at least a little distance due to its size, this is less noticeable. There is also some paint loss along the bottom where the image meets the frame.
Framed, 48.75" x 44.25"; canvas only 45.25" x 40.5".
